Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Fine-mesh strainer or sieve
  • Sterilized bottle or jar

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (200 g) white granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (240 ml) filtered water
  • 2 –3 inches fresh ginger thinly sliced or grated

Instructions

  • Add sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.
  • Stir gently until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  • Add the ginger and simmer gently for 5–8 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let steep for 10 minutes.
  • Strain out the ginger.
  • Allow the syrup to cool completely, then transfer to a sterilized glass bottle or jar.

Notes

For a richer syrup, use a 2:1 ratio (2 cups sugar to 1 cup water).
For a milder syrup, reduce simmer time to 3–5 minutes.
Store refrigerated in a sterilized glass bottle or jar. Best used within 2 weeks.
Yield: Approximately 1 cup (240 ml)
