This fresh orange simple syrup is made with real orange juice for a bright, naturally sweet citrus flavor. It’s quick to make and perfect for cocktails, iced tea, coffee, and desserts.

Equipment

  • Juicer or blender
  • Strainer

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh orange juice about 2–3 oranges
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Optional: zest of 1 orange for extra aroma

Instructions

  • Juice the oranges until you have 1 cup of fresh orange juice. Strain out pulp if desired.
  • Add the orange juice and sugar to a small saucepan over medium heat.
  • Stir gently as the mixture warms, until the sugar fully dissolves.
  • Reduce the heat and let the syrup simmer gently for 8–10 minutes. Do not boil vigorously.
  • If using orange zest, add it during the last few minutes of simmering.
  • Remove from heat and allow the syrup to cool completely.
  • Strain out the zest if used, then transfer the syrup to a clean jar or bottle.

Notes

This syrup is slightly thicker than classic simple syrup due to the natural sugars in orange juice.
Use fresh-squeezed juice for the best flavor. Bottled juice may taste flat or bitter.
For longer storage, freeze in small portions and thaw as needed.
