A fragrant, homemade cardamom syrup made with sugar, water, and crushed green cardamom pods. Perfect for coffee, tea, cocktails, desserts, and breakfast bowls.
- 1 cup granulated sugar or raw sugar
- 1 cup water
- 8 –10 green cardamom pods lightly crushed
- Optional: zest of ½ a lemon
Lightly crush cardamom pods.
Combine sugar, water, and pods in a saucepan over medium heat.
Stir until sugar dissolves.
Reduce heat and simmer gently 10–15 minutes.
Add citrus zest during the last 5 minutes if using.
Remove from heat and steep 5 minutes.
Strain into a clean jar.
Cool completely before sealing and refrigerating.
For a richer syrup, use a 2:1 sugar-to-water ratio.
Add citrus zest during simmering for a lemon twist.
Reduce steeping time for a more delicate flavor.
Store refrigerated in a sterilized glass bottle or jar. Best used within 2 weeks.
