Brown sugar simple syrup made with just 2 ingredients! This homemade coffee syrup can be made using light brown sugar or dark brown sugar each delivering delicious outcome!

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Sterilized bottle or jar

Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar light or dark, lightly packed
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  • Add the brown sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.
  • Stir often until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture just starts to simmer, about 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, if using.
  • Let the syrup cool completely to room temperature before transferring to an airtight jar or bottle.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.

Notes

For a thicker, longer-lasting syrup, use 2 cups of brown sugar to 1 cup of water. This version will keep in the fridge for up to 2 months.
To make this in the microwave, combine the sugar and water in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until dissolved, about 90 seconds total.
For a no-cook version, use warm tap water and stir by hand until the sugar fully dissolves, about 2 to 3 minutes.
