Brown sugar simple syrup made with just 2 ingredients! This homemade coffee syrup can be made using light brown sugar or dark brown sugar each delivering delicious outcome!
Small saucepan
Wooden spoon or spatula
Sterilized bottle or jar
- 1 cup brown sugar light or dark, lightly packed
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract optional
Add the brown sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.
Stir often until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture just starts to simmer, about 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract, if using.
Let the syrup cool completely to room temperature before transferring to an airtight jar or bottle.
Store in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.
For a thicker, longer-lasting syrup, use 2 cups of brown sugar to 1 cup of water. This version will keep in the fridge for up to 2 months.
To make this in the microwave, combine the sugar and water in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until dissolved, about 90 seconds total.
For a no-cook version, use warm tap water and stir by hand until the sugar fully dissolves, about 2 to 3 minutes.
